July 29-30 SCORE race
Field over half-filled, entry registration deadline closes May 2,
Ticket sales continue for SCORE LAS VEGAS TERRIBLE’S CUP I

LVMS Dirt Track to host best of SCORE Desert racing, featuring
Marquee SCORE Trophy-Truck and unlimited Class 1

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 22, 2005) -- With just over one week left before the entry registration deadline, over 50 percent of the field is already filled for the newest event in desert racing, July’s SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I. Being held on a special man-made ‘chunk of Baja’ course in and around the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the best of SCORE desert racing will be on display July 29-30 in the glowing spotlight of entertainment and special events capital of the world.

The advance entry registration window closes on Monday, May 2 for the limited-field invitational to be held under the lights on a Friday and Saturday night at the world-class Dirt Track at LVMS.

With maximum entry fields of 24 vehicles in four of five different groups, racing will begin at 7 p.m. each night at LVMS and both nights will conclude with elaborate Terrible’s Fireworks Shows.

Nearly 90-percent of the 1.5 mile course will be viewable from the grandstands in the 8,026-seat facility. Competing in their own race will be the marquee SCORE Trophy-Trucks and the unlimited SCORE Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars along with special groups for open-wheelers in Class 1-2/1600 and Class 10/SCORE Lite along with the mini-trucks of Class 7/Class 7S/Class 7SX. The event will have a $55,000 cash purse plus contingency postings. SCORE Trophy-Trucks will have no limit on number of entries.

While detailed plans will be released next week, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I will be televised nationally on a cable network by Aura 360, the company that co-produced last year’s Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 for NBC.

With each paid admission will also come one coupon for the free drawing for the SCORE Terrible’s Fan Appreciation give-a-way. A new showroom SUV, donated by Terrible’s, will be given away on Saturday night (July 30) at LVMS.

As a prelude to the two days of racing, the SCORE Pit Stop at Fremont Street Experience will be held on Thursday, July 28. At the SCORE Pit Stop, starting at 6 p.m., will be a vehicle display and the $10,000 SCORE Pit Crew Challenge for SCORE Trophy-Trucks, meet the SCORE racers party for all competing SCORE racers and a special SCORE concert under the multi-million dollar canopy on Fremont Street.

With co-title sponsorship from Las Vegas Events and Terrible’s Convenience Stores, the SCORE Las Vegas Terrible’s Cup I will feature two nights of racing on the LVMS Dirt Track. Racing will be on a purpose-built race track with limited pavement and man-made dirt simulations of the rugged desert terrain.

“Our response to date has been very impressive and we anticipate an extremely successful first-time event, but, then again, it’s kind of hard to miss when you combine the best of SCORE desert racing with Las Vegas,” said Ric Miller, Director of Event Operations for Los Angeles-based SCORE International, which is in its 32nd year of producing championship desert racing. “Advance ticket sales are strong and our list of pre-registered teams to date is also very impressive. We encourage racers to enter by the May 2 deadline and for both racers and the general public to secure their event tickets as soon as possible. We have a serious limit both on how many racers we will accept and the number of spectators the facility can accommodate.”

After 11-plus years of rumbling around rugged desert race courses in the Southwestern U.S. and Baja California, Mexico, SCORE Trophy-Trucks--the untamed 800-horsepower, unlimited production trucks that are the featured racing division in the SCORE Desert Series--will make their short-course stadium racing debut in July at LVMS.

Currently, Class 1-2/1600 has filled 19 of its 24 spots to lead the way. The combined Class 10/SCORE Lite group has 17 racers entered so far (nine of 14 spots are filled in Class 10 and eight of 10 are filled in SCORE Lite). SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1 each have 11 official entries to date. The combined Class 7/Class 7S/Class 7SX group has seven total entries thus far.

As many as 20 of these high-end, exotic, technologically-advanced desert race trucks are expected to be in Las Vegas, and many will be co-sponsored for the event by various Southern Nevada resort properties.

The two groups with multiple classes will have a handicapped start, to be determined during practice at LVMS on race day.

Vehicles that have competed in at least two SCORE long course events within the past two years are eligible to enter. Additionally, SCORE Trophy-Trucks will have a few additional technical requirements including running a minimum size tire of 37”, minimum of 5,000 pounds in weight and a minimum fuel capacity of 45 gallons. All other SCORE 2003-2006 Off-Road Racing Rules and Regulations will be in place for this event.

Among those already entered, Las Vegas’ Ed and Tim Herbst, are the all-time winningest team in SCORE Trophy-Truck history. Splitting the driving time in their No. 19 Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford F-150, Ed, 43, and Tim, 41, have 11 career wins in SCORE Trophy-Truck, and four of the 11 season championships (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003).

Troy Herbst, 38, the youngest of the three Herbst brothers, is a dominating SCORE Class 1 racer, with six SCORE season point titles in his class out of the last seven years, and 16 Class 1 race wins since 1997 in a Smithbuilt-Ford open wheel desert race car.

Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren, and Cameron Steele, San Clemente, CA, are the only racers entered in two classes so far. MacCachren, a seven-time SCORE season class point champion, and Steele, an extreme sports announcer with ESPN, are both entered in SCORE Trophy-Truck and Class 1-2/1600. MacCachren, who is driver of record in Class 1-2/1600, will drive one night in SCORE Trophy-Truck for team owner/driver of record Gus Vildosola in the Vildosola Racing No. 4 Ford F-150 and will drive solo in his own MacCachren Motorsports Fraley-VW in Class 1-2/1600. Steele will drive the No. 16 Stout Racing Ford F-150 in SCORE Trophy-Truck and the Stout Racing Prep-by-Jake-VW in Class 1-2/1600 .

The early-bird sale for the two SCORE Super Pass reserved-seat packages continues on-line.

Special SCORE Super Pass packages, including a reserved seat and pit pass for both nights in the Blue VIP Section are $39 each. The SCORE Super Pass package for the White Section will include a reserved seat and pit pass for both nights in the White Section, will be $34 each. The regular price for each of these packages is $69 for the Blue VIP reserved seating area and $59 for the White reserved seating area.

Special SCORE room blocks are also now available at Terrible’s Hotel/Casino (800.640.9777) and the Golden Nugget Hotel/Casino (800.846.5336). Group code for both is SCORE Racing. The double/double room rate at Terrible’s is $39 Sunday through Thursday, $49 Friday and Saturday, while the double/double rate at the Golden Nugget is $59 per night.
